European Breeding Bird Atlas 2

Meer dan 20 jaar na de publicatie van de eerste European Breeding Bird Atlas is dit boek de meest up-to-date informatiebron over verspreiding, overvloed en verandering van vogelpopulaties in Europa.

Een enorme inspanning van de European Bird Census Council en zijn partnerorganisaties uit 48 landen hebben dit mogelijk gemaakt. In totaal droegen ongeveer 120.000 veldwerkers gegevens bij aan de atlas, voornamelijk van 2013 tot 2017. Als zodanig vormt dit project een van de grootste citizen science-projecten over biodiversiteit ooit.

Dit boek bevat informatie over alle soorten waarvan is gemeld dat ze in de onderzoeksperiode broeden. In totaal worden 556 soorten behandeld met een volledige soortenrekening inclusief kaarten, tekst en een illustratie. Volledige soortenverslagen omvatten kaarten van 50 × 50 km, gemodelleerde verspreidingskaarten met een resolutie van 10 × 10 km (voor 224 broedvogels) en veranderingskaarten (waarin de huidige verdeling wordt vergeleken met die welke 30 jaar geleden is verkregen). Al deze gegevens documenteren de toestand van de Europese broedvogels met behulp van wetenschappelijke benaderingen met als uiteindelijk doel het effectief behoud van vogels en hun leefgebieden aan te moedigen.

More than 20 years after the publication of the first European Breeding Bird Atlas, this book is the most up-to-date source of information on distribution, abundance and change of bird populations in Europe. A tremendous effort by the European Bird Census Council and its partner organisations from 48 countries have made it possible. In total, around 120,000 fieldworkers contributed data to the atlas, mainly from 2013 to 2017. As such this project constitutes one of the biggest citizen science projects on biodiversity ever.

This book presents information on all species reported to breed in the study period. A total of 556 species are treated with a full species account including maps, text and an illustration. Full species accounts include 50×50 km maps (usually showing abundance data), modelled distribution maps with a resolution of 10×10 km (for 222 breeding birds) and change maps (comparing current distribution with that obtained 30 years ago). All these data document the state of the European breeding avifauna using the most rigorous scientific approaches with the final aim to encourage the effective conservation of birds and their habitats.

EUROPEAN BIRD CENSUS COUNCIL
European Breeding Bird Atlas 2 (EBBA2) is a project of the European Bird Census Council (EBCC) and its network of partner organisations from all European countries. An Atlas Steering Committee supervised the project, which was coordinated by teams from three organisations with complementary experience in bird atlases, spatial modelling as well as the coordination of large international projects involving many partners.
